Saturday Tri!

I have a sprint Tri on Saturday. It is close to home and a lot of members from my tri club are doing the race. Now here is the good part. My daughter, wife and niece are competing as a team. Daughter Scoopie is doing the swim. She is an awesome swimmer. Last night we were at the lake and she swam 1.20 miles with us. Whew hew! 1.20 miles and she is only 15. My niece, IronSunshine is a 4 time Ironman and she is doing the bike and the Queen will bring it all home on the run. It will be a blast to do a race and have my daughter and wife competing with me. Have a great weekend!

Houston We Have A Problem

My last attempt at Ironman (2006) ended with neck pain. When I was 15 I was in a serious car accident and injured my neck. In 2006 I was told that I have two bulging discs and that with some strength training I could build these muscles up and hopefully make the pain go away. So strength training I began. I ended up dropping out of the race in 2006 at the advise of my doctor.

So, fast forward to this year. My neck has once again been sore. As the miles accumulate the pain increases. Last night after 50 miles on the bike it was very, very sore. Sore to the point of spasms and shooting pain. I got home and iced it. Today it is still very sore. I'm really beginning to worry as the rides get longer and more frequent the pain starts sooner in the ride and has intensified. I have already decided that following this year it will probably be sprints and a few Olympic distance for me next year.

After reading about Commodor and his issues it really scares me. He pushed it and now can't do much of anything. I don't want to end up in his situation. He is now working just to be able to participate at any level. Scary stuff! One thing I've learned about Ironman training is that it exposes all of your weeknesses. A little problem or pain in sprint distance training usually becomes a big issue when Ironman training. I guess that's why it's called Ironman. Your soft spots are exposed.

All for now. Swimming tonight, sore neck and all. Could be interesting. Have a great day!

Jammin In The Pond

Saturday at Country Jam there was a huge storm. We got 2 inches of rain in about an hour. When the rain was over we returned to our seats to find about a foot of water in the VIP seating area. So it was Clay Walker in the pond. It was about knee deep in the front row and about ankle deep in the 9th row where we were seated. We would wade to the front row to take pictures. Crazy! By the time that Carrie Underwood took the stage our row was dry. It was a concert like no other. We had a great time!

Country Jam Day 1

Day one of country jam is in the books. We saw Taylor Swift and Rascal flats last night. It was a blast. We have great seats just a few rows from the stage. Today is Big and Rich and Little Big Town among others. Off to the Jam!
Have a great day and good luck to all of those d0ing the Spirit Of Racine on Sunday. I heard the water temp is 56! To cold for me.

Some Like It Hot!

Big guys like me are not one of them. Last night it was 90 degrees and humid. I manged to run 3 miles and then decided to hit the pool for an hour swim. The run sucked but it sure made the pool feel good.
I think I was wetter after the run than the swim.

I can't believe I deleted my blog yesterday. I meant to delete a test blog. The second I hit delete I knew what I had done. Kind of like when you lock your keys in the car. So it's starting over for me.
