Going Crazy!

Ahhhh!!! I'm going crazy not being able to workout! People thing the taper is hard before an Ironman. Me, I'm going cold turkey! No exercise of any kind is just driving me nuts!

On a positive note I found out that my home owners insurance will cover my bike. So I've been having fun looking at possibilities to replace my old bike. I plan on mountain biking when I'm able to this fall so there is no rush to buy a new bike right away. Looking is a lot of fun.

Again, thanks to all of you that have wished me well with my injuries. Now go workout for me. I just heard the ice cream call out for me. I've been a bad bad boy with my diet since being injured.

A look back

All in all I'm a lucky guy. Lucky to escape with only the injuries that I did. I'll never forget the sound of the crash. Seeing the deer directly in front of me and knowing that I was going to crash. When the accident was over it's kind of amazing the way your brain takes over and blocks the seriousness of the situation. I was sure I was okay, a little scraped up, but okay. All I needed was a ride home.
When I got to the clinic they had a much different attitude of my situation. They were very worried about internal injuries and especially worried about my kidneys. My first urine test showed that I had blood in my urine. I also was on the verge of passing out every time I tried to stand. The upper number of my blood pressure dropped from 140 to 90 when I got up.
A week later and I'm feeling a little better. My foot is still really swollen and my elbow, back and knee hurt like crazy. The realization that there is not going top be an ironman for me this year has set in. Up until today I thought I could still pull it off. But today it's still a struggle just to get around the house. The hard part will be knowing that I could have done it. I have visualized it all year. All those late nights at the pool away from my family knowing that it all had a finish. I never thought that it would end this way.

The Gore (For Speedo Sreve)

Today is finally a better day. Up until today more and more of my body would ache. My doctors all say that I am extremely lucky to escape with only bruises and road rash. All for now, have a great day and thanks for all you that have wished me well.

Whats left of the Bike

Oh Deer! Oh *#@#!

Monday night I set out on a short ride before my lawn work. I was doing my favorite loop of 26 miles. It has two good climbs and some rollers. I climbed the second hill and started my decent. I got to the long straight on the bottom of the hill, let off the brake. I looked down and I was at 40mph. Then out of know where a deer pops out of the ditch right in front of me. Then there is that split second where you realize your going to hit it. I slammed the deer and flew over the front of the bike. I kind of tucked and rolled. When I stopped sliding I looked back and saw the deer get up and walk in to the woods.

I lay ed in the road for about 5 to 10 minutes and there was not a car in sight. I managed to get up and get my cell phone and called for help. My bike was in three pieces! The carbon tubes were snapped right in half. To make a long story short I'm road rash from the neck down and received a bunch of stitches in my elbow. My foot is really swollen and my little toe is broken. Every day more and more of my body hurts.

So what really sucks is that next week started the taper for Ironmna Wisconsin. Looks like its not in the cards for me this year. That really sucks after all of the hard training! I still plan on going and will volunteer at the finish line. It will be hard to watch but I could not just stay home.

Today as I layed on the recliner zonked on percocet I remembered that phrase in the commercial for the Tour this year. The phrase where they say imagine traveling down the road in your car, stripping down to your underwear and jumping out at 40 mph. I can now tell you that it really hurts.

All for now. I'll post some bike pictures when I pick it up. Oh yea, maybe I'll post some gorry road rash pictures for Spedo Steve. I know he likes those gross out pictures.

VACATION! Yea!

We are in Hayward for the week. Yesterday we spent the day on the lake kayaking. It was a lot of fun! This is a picture of daughter Scoopie getting her kayaking groove on.
Hayward is the home of the Chequamegon mountain bike race. It is packed full of some of the most awesome trails. The only problem is that this is deer fly season so the woods get a little buggy. All for now, have a great day!

What's wrong with this world?

.
NIAGARA, Wis. — A man wearing camouflage clothing and carrying an assault rifle walked out of the woods and shot four young people who had gathered at a river to go swimming, killing three of them and wounding one.

More than 100 law enforcement officers from at least 10 agencies searched today for the gunman, a middle-age man who was last seen near the town of Niagara, across the state line from Michigan's Upper Peninsula.
Officers set up roadblocks and evacuated an unknown number of homes.

The victims had gathered near a railroad bridge on the Menominee River when the gunman came out of the woods and opened fire about 5:30 p.m. Thursday, according to Sheriff Jim Kanikula.

Two of the bodies had not been removed from the scene today because of a fear that the shooter was still in the area, the sheriff said.

The dead were identified as Tiffany Pohlson, 17; Anthony Spigarelli, 18; and Bryan Mort, 19. A fourth victim, 20-year-old Daniel Louis Gordon, was wounded.

Niagara is about 210 miles north of Milwaukee.
